It’s A Party

The Acadia Community Garden and Art Society with our amazing charitable partners, the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, are excited to share with you information about our the Soul of the City Grant Event Growing Acadia: Art and Garden Come Together.
We are continually grateful for the support and enthusiasm we have had come our way for this unique event. This event has its’ roots in building community and fostering relationships.

Paint the Pavement
“Paint the Pavement” program is a relatively new City of Calgary Department but has already become very popular with 5 “Paint the Pavement” projects happening in Calgary this year alone.  For more information about the value of painting the pavement for communities, please see http://www.paintthepavement.org/

Our Supporters
We surveyed the neighbourhood and have the support of our Councillor Gian Carlo Carra, our MLA, Hon. Jonathan Denis, Ecole De La Source School's current and upcoming Principals, the Calgary Horticulture Society and amazing support from all 17 of the residents that live around the mural that we have been able to talk to directly. We have left flyers at the houses of neighbours we could not reach.
The project has the support of Calgary Foundation, Calgary Economic Foundation and Soul of the City and the Acadia Strong Neighbourhood Initiative.
Mural Design
The beautiful rough sketch by the talented Acadia connected artist, Sylvia Prochownik, is posted here for you to see. We plan to paint it on the pavement of the road in front of the garden on August 9, 2014.

You are invited
You are invited to help us paint the mural and join the block party! Come on out and enjoy free hotdogs and hamburgers served up by our amazing barbeque sponsor – M & M Meats.  There will be old-fashioned games and a bouncy house for the children.
Community Consultation
On July 15th, from 7-9 pm we will have a community consultation and info evening at the Garden. We would like to invite you to attend and be part of the community response to the plan.  To paint this mural on the pavement, we need your support.
Volunteers
We welcome your involvement with the block party and mural painting.  It’s going to be fun!  You can volunteer by going to www.growingacadia.ca and selecting the volunteer sign-up link.

Thank you to Calgary Reads for donating a little free library shaped like a little birdhouse to the garden. It came all primed and ready for painting. If you have a great idea for the little free library and want to paint it, we are looking for design submissions and a volunteer painter.

Soul of the City grant event, Growing Acadia: Art and Garden Come Together - Augst 9th - its going to be fabulous our block party with great hotdogs and hamburgers from M & M Meats and cooked by fabulous volunteers from M & M Meats! Bouncy house, childrens toss games by Alliance Entertainment, and of course our community mural painting project - watch for the official announcement of our wonderful mural artist. Thank you to our fabulous neighbours by the garden - we were able to talk to 17 houses and we received 100% support for the project and a fabulous donation from one of the neighbours! We love our neighbours! Thank you for all your support and encouragement. Watch for our ad in the July & August "Hello Acadia". We are so glad to be getting to know them and appreciate all their efforts! Thank you!

Lawn Chair Theater is August 27th (not Augst 29 as previously published - my mistake). Its going to be great. The line up of performers is tentative but from what I have heard - its going to be a great evening of free entertainment. More to come!

So much is happening at the garden! Watch for splashes of art to appear as artists are starting on projects to brighten up the garden fence, shed and bench.

Remember - if you have a great idea and would like to see something happening in the garden - please contact us. It's our garden and the more of us involved, the more beautiful and enriching it becomes for all of us!

Thank you to the amazing board and volunteers and gardeners - you are phenomenal - without you - the garden would not exist!
